British Accents Make Me Smile

In my world, it’s a well known fact that I am a huge fan of British accents. In fact, I’m such a fan that if I decide to have a kid, I will move to England for three years so my child will have one (That would be so sweet). But anyway, I really enjoyed watching The Queen in class on Monday. I’ve been meaning to see that movie for quite sometime. I think I may have been the only person who actually felt bad for the queen. Yes, in the movie she was very cold but she didn’t know any better. Poor woman was raised and was expected to rule in a way that was completely the opposite of what society became when Diana passed away. On a PR level, this movie showed how the field is constantly changing. Tony Blair was trying to encourage change and more effective and present day PR campaign , while the royal family was stuck in the old way of doing things (similar to that of new media). On a lighter note, I loved the Queen mum. haha She rocked, I wish she was still alive. I would take her home to Hamilton. Plus, Prince Charles was much more attractive in this movie than in real life. Very deceiving.

Side note: If someone can teach me how to speak with a British accent, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Quick update

Tomorrow starts my last Undergraduate Spring Break, and boy am I looking forward to it. I’m not doing anything spectacular-just going to Atlantic City for a night, and going to some Irish pubs on St. Patty’s day! But I just wanted to leave a short post because I doubt I’m going to write that much next week. I made myself a LinkedIn resume. I also created a profile on The Biz. I started making a web page resume on Google. It’s not close to being done, but it is in progress.

Me Vs. Blogging #2. Blogs win.

My post last week was about making a resume on a new a blog and after the two comments I got, I am totally going to go through with it. That will be tackled next week while I’m on Spring Break. :) (Which I can not wait for.)

On another note, I went on my first interview for a job after graduation last Friday. It went really well…but the funny thing is, I actually asked a question about blogs and new media and whether or not that particular company incorporates it. They don’t, and I remember thinking to myself, that’s probably not the best idea for this type of company. I guess it is safe to say that I have been persuaded by this idea of new media and how it can definitely help in the Public Relations world. It makes sense to use it, and on the other hand I can see why companies are skeptical to use it. But obviously it works. I mean, look at my blog. I thought no one even looked at it, besides the people in my class-but apparently that’s not the case at all. Kudos to me!

Interviews, Resumes, and HR…Oh My!

Since we are able to freely write whatever we want, I am now at a lost for words. That surprises me. I guess I could write about the beautiful 60 degree weather we are having, but I didn’t get to enjoy it/or my birthday weekend all that much because of stupid bronchitis. However, on Friday night I did get to go to Triumph Brewery in Princeton. Being a 22 year old Hamilton veteran-you would think I’ve experienced Princeton millions of times. In all reality it has been far from that. But every time I go, I do enjoy it more and more.

On another note, for all the graduating seniors, how’s that job search going? Mine is eh. I got two interviews lined up, which is sweet. But it would be so much easier if something were already lined up for me. That would make that transition for student to career woman so much easier. But I guess this is part of the “fun”. Who would have thought, I think I might actually use blogs to further my career search. If I ever get the time to just sit down and do it, I might actually make a separate blog just about my professional information. This would include resumes, experience, honors, and all that jazz. After hearing from David Meerman Scott in our class via Skype last Monday, I think he may be on to something about a professional blog. ( haha I like how I said he may be on to something, he must be-he wrote a best selling book). But in reality, I think, especially in a time when technology is overwhelmingly part of society, the capabilities of blogging will soon be overwhelming. And who knows, maybe some HR person for a PR company will come across my blog resume and leave me a comment about a possible interview. Let’s hope that works!
